Summary

The circus arrives without warning。 No announcements precede it。 It is simply there, when yesterday it was not。

The black sign, painted in white letters that hangs upon the gates, reads:

Opens at Nightfalll
Closes at Dawn

As the sun disappears beyond the horizon, all over the tents small lights begin to flicker, as though the entirety of the circus is covered in particularly bright fireflies。 When the tents are all aglow, sparkling against the night sky, the sign appears。

Le Cirque des Rêves

The Circus of Dreams。

Now the circus is open。

Now you may enter。

This book is beautiful。 It leans heavily on intricate descriptions, world-building, as well as incredible setting and atmosphere, with an almost poetry-like feel to the writing。 To me, this story is some god-tier level escapism。 The one thing I’d say is that if you love books for their plot, drama or storylines, this novel probably won’t be everything you’re looking for。 The plot is relatively loose and unstructured, and doesn’t always seem to be the focus of the novel。 Basically, this book is a This book is beautiful。 It leans heavily on intricate descriptions, world-building, as well as incredible setting and atmosphere, with an almost poetry-like feel to the writing。 To me, this story is some god-tier level escapism。 The one thing I’d say is that if you love books for their plot, drama or storylines, this novel probably won’t be everything you’re looking for。 The plot is relatively loose and unstructured, and doesn’t always seem to be the focus of the novel。 Basically, this book is an experience。 You read this book so you can exist in a different world, if even for a moment, that has extremely compelling characters and a fantastical setting。 I’d recommend it。 。。。more

I loved this book。 I got a little confused with the dates, but it didn't detract from the story。 It had my heart racing wondering what was going to happen to Celia and Marcus。 I loved this book。 I got a little confused with the dates, but it didn't detract from the story。 It had my heart racing wondering what was going to happen to Celia and Marcus。 。。。more

It’s a bit of a slow burn but once the story gets going it’s engaging and compelling。 The author does a marvelous job of setting the mood。 And while not a ton of time is spent on character development, I found that I couldn’t help but be invested in their outcomes。 I think maybe it’s because the world they live in is so enchanting and the author has made them so integral to the magic of the atmosphere。

4。5/5 starsThe funny thing about this book is that I had always seen it in odd places at odd times。 The first time was when I was in a Waterstones several years ago and the cover caught my eye。 I didn't pick it up。The next time I had heard conversations about it, and I had seen it when I was scanning my school library shelves for another book I had in mind。 Again, I didn't pick it up。It wasn't until when, one day after school, I was in the library and I turned to look at the shelves and it was j 4。5/5 starsThe funny thing about this book is that I had always seen it in odd places at odd times。 The first time was when I was in a Waterstones several years ago and the cover caught my eye。 I didn't pick it up。The next time I had heard conversations about it, and I had seen it when I was scanning my school library shelves for another book I had in mind。 Again, I didn't pick it up。It wasn't until when, one day after school, I was in the library and I turned to look at the shelves and it was just there。 Sticking out like a sore thumb despite it being placed the same way as the books around it- in perfect order。 I asked my librarian about the book and she explained the premise of two magicians feuding, saying the writing was flowery and beautiful, then asked me if I wanted to give it a try, and I said yes。The small description she gave me did not prepare me in the slightest for the story I dove into。This is genuinely one of the most beautiful writing I have ever read。 The way in which she wrote the story was one I was not used to, hence it taking me a while to get into it some parts。 The description of places, of people, of emotions and feelings and that CIRCUS。 I wish it was real。 Erin Morgenstern has written a gem of a book, one I will not forget for a long, long time。 The only thing, and I mean ONLY thing I would have wanted to see more of was the romance between Celia and Marco develop, as I felt there was a bit of a sudden jump in their relationship。 Maybe that's a part of the mystery of these people; maybe the simple fact that they loved each other should have been enough。 But I'm a sucker for romantic development and waffle, which sucks。That is the only thing I wanted more of, because Erin Morgenstern gave me what I wanted and more in all other aspects of this novel。 。。。more

I liked the writing, and the story was nice, it was just kind of boring。 Nothing really happened until the very end。 Also, the ending was kind of vague。 I get it was meant to be like that, but it just isn’t my thing。 But overall, I did like this book。

This was a lovely book。 The way that it jumped through time was very interesting, and I liked how it all came together in the end。 It establishes a bit of a mystery throughout the book, which left me wanting to read more and more。

Another really fantastic and immersive book from Morgenstern (did I spell that right??)!!! This one gets a slightly higher score than Starless Sea, however not by much。 I could reread this one again to follow even better - I was on an e-reader and so sometimes it was hard to keep track of what year I was in。 I would really like to buy a hard copy of this。 She does such a fun job of describing the sights and smells and colors, I would LOVE to visit the night circus。 The end was a bit abstract but Another really fantastic and immersive book from Morgenstern (did I spell that right??)!!! I really loved this book and just flew through it。 It was enchanting and whimsical and gorgeous。 I love fantasy style books anyways but the world in this one was really beautifully written, if I had any critique it would be that I wanted more about the circus (like more of the chapters about the different tents and performers)。 Also, the description of the magic was a little vague and on one hand, I love when an author creates their own magic and tells us the rules and the processes, but on the I really loved this book and just flew through it。 It was enchanting and whimsical and gorgeous。 I love fantasy style books anyways but the world in this one was really beautifully written, if I had any critique it would be that I wanted more about the circus (like more of the chapters about the different tents and performers)。 Also, the description of the magic was a little vague and on one hand, I love when an author creates their own magic and tells us the rules and the processes, but on the other hand, leaving the details vague just adds to that feeling of wonder and you can imagine it yourself and figure out what is happening for yourself。 I'm just upset that it had to end。 。。。more

This book deserves so much more than five stars!

Matthew

A great and original book! It was sometimes a little difficult to follow since it has quite a few characters and switches time。 Still the circus itself is so vivadly written, you can just see it and imagine it as this amazing place。

Elsa

this book was so extraordinary and i loved it with my whole soul

I should have listened to my sister and stopped reading it。 I thought it would capture my attention at some point。 It has over 4 stars。 Nope。 Never happened。

What if magicians were dueling is a genre that I just need more of。 It took me forever to read this but I loved Starless Sea, so I figured it was much overdue for me to pick this up and I'm glad I did。 Erin Morgenstern built a beautiful world with fun characters。 Could there have been a little more action? Maybe, but I don't always need that from a book! Wow, this was so magical, whimsical and atmospheric。 This felt like being in a fairytale。 Everything about it was just so magical。 The plot, the romance, the characters, the timeline。 It was mysterious, but in a way that’s satisfying and well thought out, rather than being confusing for the sake of being confusing (@ The Starless Sea)。 I loved this, and I can’t wait to reread it。

Donna Hopkins

I enjoyed the mystery of the Night Circus, but it was at times a little slow。 I kept waiting for this big thing to happen and it never really happened。 I guess that was the point of the story。 I enjoyed this book but think it fell just a little flat in the excitement department for me。

Allison

This book。。。just WOW。 I loved the writing style so so much。 It felt like a dream to read and I never wanted to wake up。 This is probably my favorite book of all time now and I can’t wait to read it again already。
